Below the research, in the engineering. We do not do novel machine learning research and would be foolish to claim it in this city. What we do is take models, commercial or open, and build production systems around them: retrieval, evaluation suites, latency and cost control, monitoring and safe rollout. Research groups are often excellent at models and short on production engineering, and that is the gap.
Can you work on robotics?+
Not the robotics itself. Control systems, perception and motion planning need specialists we do not have. Cloud infrastructure, fleet management, data pipelines from robots and operational platforms around them are work we can do. The distinction is worth being explicit about with a Pittsburgh buyer.
